That Garment - Poem Lyrics

· · 275 words · 2 minute read

Behold, take that garment
For my heart is not in it
I do not own that garment
Or even claim it
You own it
You can take it back
Or take off if you will
Or just leave it alone
As for my heart I have sworn
That you will not have it
I do not own my heart
Nor will you ever do
It is owned by my God
Who committed it to me
It is useless to come near it
Behold, ask my heart

Your absent husband
Entrusted me assets and people
And me reign over
All of his house
It is a trusted covenant
How can I breach it
If I am a betrayer
Who presumably betray it
How can I disobey The Lord my God
And accept this evil
Forgetting my mind and faith
Casting my morality to earth
So stay away from me
For your ethics are immoral
What pride is in my garment
That you took off
Behold, take that garment
For my heart is not in it

I wish you know what I know
About my grandfather Abraham
The story of obedience and the altar
And the prepared son
An obedience chanted by the world
From generation to generation
An obedience that I inherited
And became a sign of my glory
An obedience to God, not evil
For evil fails
An obedience to the spirit, not the body
For the body is my servant
I will obey God even if
I am the only one obeying God
How can I disobey God
And follow this offensive evil
Behold, take that garment
For my heart is not in it
